Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

I can't get any kind of blur or shadow to work, so I'm assuming it's a bug in the code that blurs stuff (shadows are blurred, right?)

Same behaviour with a fresh and up-to-date Hardy Beta.

nvidia-glx-new

Drop shadow effects do not work. Blur effects don't work either. This is using compiz-window-decorator and the "Extra" effects setting. Installing ccsm and trying to configure the window decorator has no effect.

With the Hardy Beta (mine being an upgrade, rather than fresh install)

'Pink Halo' effect. When I'm messing with Emerald and generally varying the opacity/radius settings, I can sometimes see a pink halo around all the Panel and windows - looks like a clash of some kind. Using 'Compiz Fusion Icon' to switch and reload things can leave you with clean windows (no shadow or halo), but my side panel has a ghostly vertical stripe equal to it's width (ghostly because it isn't a shadow, it's a white halo, and it appears around the desktop furniture (menu's etc).

There is probably an easy switch somewhere...

Camaaaaan, not the same bug, right? This is about the shadows and blurred windows not working. I don't have any pink halos. :P

The other bug says "or not at all". That covers your shadow issues.

Travis,

Blur doesn't work, either. Is that bug lost in the other report? Do
you want huge monolithic reports for general brokenness in Compiz? :P

It would not surprise me at all if it had the same issue, see if installing the nvidia driver manually (from nvidia.com) works. Or did you set the gaussian radius to something higher than 15 somehow? If neither one of those helps please open a new bug as this one is already tainted with the shadow issues so people will keep posting about those in it.

It happens for me as well. No Shadows with compiz+emerald.

However, if i Disable nvidia driver from the restricted modules, and download and install the driver from the nvidia website, it works. But that problem with that is that after some ubuntu updates, the nvidia driver stops working, and i have to reinstall it.

Also, if i apply the solution listed in the original report

sudo apt-get install xserver-xgl

the shadows show up, but i am not able to edit the emerald theme like i would be able to if i had manually installed the nvidia driver
