Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-calc

Three times in the past fortnight OpenOffice has failed to correctly save to excell xp format. The first time, the resulting file was missing all content below the fourth row. The second time all cell contents were saved but all formatting was lost. The third time the file was completely unreadable. I am attaching the unreadable file.

Can you include the original source document that you converted to XLS as well?

Thanks,

Chris

Unfortunately there was no original source document. The unreadable file is from saving changes to an existing XLS.

This bug has happened again in slightly better circumstances. I have an archive with theoretically the same file: one corrupted and one good. File:Save resulted in the bad copy. File:Save as... and saving in a different location resulted in the good copy.

I believe that this bug has been corrected in Ubuntu hardy openoffice.org 1:2.4.0-3ubuntu1 so I am marking it as Fix Released. If after upgrading you continue to have problems with this issue then feel free to reopen this bug.

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

I generated the files in the tgz archive with openoffice.org 1:2.4.0-3ubuntu1. Before I upgraded this behaviour was very occasional but now it happens several times a day.

Ok, I can send it upstream, but I can't even get it to reproduce so they are unlikely to be able to either.

We've tried replacing Office 97 with Openoffice 2.02 but have had so many corruptions of excel files from calc that we have had to scrap that idea.

Do you still have this problem with openoffice.org 1:2.4.1-11ubuntu2 in Ubuntu 8.10?

Also did these corruptions occur on the local filesystem or over some sort of networked filesystem? There have been a few reports about files getting corrupted that were saved to smb network file shares.
