Bug Description

I'm trying to make an update today. I've got this message :

"An insoluble problem became apparent during initialization data package.

Please report this bug package "update-manager" and to include the following error message:

'E: Unable to lock / var / cache / apt / srcpkgcache.bin - open (13 Permission not granted), E: The package lists or file "status" can not be analyzed or read. "

What can I do ?

Thanks for your bugreport.

What version of ubuntu/update-manager are you using? Could you please attach a screenshot of the error window?

Thanks,
 Michael

Hi,

Ubuntu Version: 7.10

The update has worked this morning, I get no longer the error message. So I can't send a screenshot.
I should mention that this is not the first time I encounter the problem: http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=186152
(The link is in french, sorry)
So I think that we should not pass the bug as "resolved". This bug appears on my computer sometimes, and disappears (or not) depending on the updates.

Thanks,
seb35690.

Thanks, could you please create a screenshot when the problem happens to you the next time? Is the above error message exactly the message you get from the system?

No problem, I will send a screenshot the next time.

The error message is in french. I've used Google Translator, so perhaps that it's not the exact message in english.

Thanks for your response,

seb35690.

The problem comes from non official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please report this bug to the maintainer of the repositories you're using. Thanks!
