Bug Description

kgoetz@edubuntu:~$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
Release: 8.04
Codename: hardy

the colours used for the workspace switcher mean its not possible for me to easily tell which workspace is the active one. this was something that was extremely clear on previous versions of gnome.

I'm using Edubuntu and its themeing.

I think it's too late to do anything about this - "HardyArtworkFinalDeadline" was passed on March 13th, and I think theme colors count. You can use the gnome-color-chooser, I think it's in the hardy universe repo now, to modify this if you want.

Thank you for your suggestion. However, the changes you are requesting aren't really a bug and require more discussion, which should be done on an appropriate mailing list or forum. http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community/mailinglists might be a good start for determining which mailing list to use.

While it may need more discussion, i'm not convinced that means the bug report is invalid.

you could at least have suggested a list ...

Karl,

In order to make this bug report go further, can you provide a screenshot to illustrate what you think is not clear and we will then set the status to "confirmed".

I agree. Apparently the only clue I get is that the active window has a white center instead of an orange one. But if the window is small, that amounts to nothing (see enclosed). Furthermore, the indication doesn't change until after I've stopped switching (at least with a compiz desktop cube). There really ought to be a bright green highlight around the edge of the active workspace or something. In fact, I don't care if the switcher shows me anything about the windows in the workspaces -- it's too small to be useful. Just show me which is the active one, please!!

I found an old screenshot of mine on breezy and you can see how the colours of the workspace switcher have evolved. I think the way breezy used to display it is way clearer and should be reverted to. (I don't know about in-between Ubuntu releases).

Ok, actually the problem isn't in Gnome, but in compiz. The colours in the workspace switcher are fine when compiz is turned off.

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of this project.

- This bug is concerning edubuntu artwork.
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as "Invalid" only in the papercuts project.
