I don't recall any further instances of this since the upgrade. More often than not, when I have problems with desktop effects the whole computer hangs. I don't seem to have a core file lying around either, so I don't think I'll be able to provide any further info. Unless any suggestions are forthcoming, I'm happy for this to be closed.
