Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase

I'm afraid I can't give many details for this bug, since there doesn't seem to be any obvious symptom other than this. On hardy, konqueror (3.5.9) is very very slow - in fact, it is constantly freezing and unfreezing (i.e. every few seconds, and every time I switch to another window / instance). It tends to do this a lot sometimes, and other times not at all. Each time it freezes, it's typically for 10-20 seconds.

I'm not getting any high CPU usage from anything (nspluginviewer, konqueror, Xorg etc), and there's nothing in dmesg, /var/log/messages. The only thing I've got in .xsession-errors, which I've not seen before is this:

kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: KLibrary: /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: undefined symbol: PKCS7_content_free
kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: KLibrary: /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: undefined symbol: OpenSSL_add_all_algorithms
kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: KLibrary: /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: undefined symbol: OPENSSL_add_all_algorithms
kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: KLibrary: /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: undefined symbol: OpenSSL_add_all_algorithms_conf

But I don't think it's related.

Other apps and the desktop continue to respond well.

I can't think of anything I know of which has changed to cause this, since I was using 3.5.9 on Gutsy before. I am using an intel wireless chip, which switched from ipw3945 to iwl3945 with the move to Hardy. Not sure if this could cause the problems though.

Can anyone suggest a way of helping me to make this bug report better? It's quite a serious issue...

Thanks!

The same happens on my gutsy kde 3.5.9 since the last update and reboot (2008-03-31).

Additionally konversation freezes when konqueror is called from within it (i.e. clicking on a url)

Here is a webpage that can reproduce the freeze: http://www.spiegel.de

It occurs always at 26% when in KDE4 on hardy the kio_http is lunched in order to load a gif image.

Further update. I tried to reboot the computer, but it froze while shutting down KDE. After I killed klauncher, everything continued properly. Therefore, I conclude, klauncher must have had some problems at the time. Since the reboot everything is fine.

I'm still getting it on Hardy (konq 3.5.9) after several reboots I'm afraid... Also getting the problem Ralph mentioned regarding KDE not logging out. But again, only sometimes.

Okay, appears to have been fixed by whatever the latest update did... thanks!
