Another way to trigger this is to sort applications by popularity by clicking on the column header.

The huge Network Manager icon breaks alignment, so that app names and short descriptions almost disappear (see attached picture).

The icon is for the 'gnome-system-tools' package.

The icon is actually for the gnome-nettool package.

Thanks Michael and Brian! Does anything still need to happen with gnome-icon-theme, and if so, what?

I'm wondering because I can not confrm this for hardy...

$ uname -r
2.6.24-19-generic
$ apt-cache show gnome-icon-theme | grep Version
Version: 2.22.0-1ubuntu2

So is this still valid?

It was worked around for Hardy in gnome-app-install, so you won't see
it there (or hopefully ever again). Thanks for reminding us to adjust
the gnome-icon-theme task!

A last question, Michael: Was the fix specific to hardy? if yes can you please mark the entire gnome-icon-theme as "won't fix"? Since it is set to "new" it still appears in the search. Thanks.

I have also marked the "gnome-icon-theme" package as "won't fix" because the bug still appeared in the search (which was somhow confusing).

I am not sure that this is an error in the icon them but rather in the app itself
