Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-2

Problem with two firefox packages from Ubuntu hardy: firefox 3.0~b4+nobinonly-0ubuntu1 and firefox-2 2.0.0.13+1nobinonly-0ubuntu1. When both of these packages are installed, the firefox-2 command runs frefox 3, not firefox 2 (firefox commadn runs firefox 3 too). With gutsy packages firefox 2.0.0.13+1nobinonly-0ubuntu0.7.10 and firefox-3.0 3.0~b3~cvs20080101t1000+nobinonly-0ubuntu1~gutsy1 there is no such problem: firefox command runs firefox 2, and firefox-3.0 command runs firefox 3.

This always happens when one instance of firefox is running. Try closing all firefox 3 instances and running firefox-2.

Make sure you are not running firefox 3 by running
 ps aux | grep firefox

But with versions from gutsy I can run firefox 2 and firefox 3 in same time.

I was just about to post this bug, luckily I found it.

$ ls -l /usr/bin/fire*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 2008-04-06 10:25 /usr/bin/firefox -> firefox-3.0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 2008-03-26 10:05 /usr/bin/firefox-2 -> ../lib/firefox/firefox-2
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 31 2008-04-06 10:25 /usr/bin/firefox-3.0 -> ../lib/firefox-3.0b5/firefox.sh

But for some reason, when you type in 'firefox-2' in the command line, Firefox 3.0b5 pops up.

$ firefox-2

It's just the most confusing thing because when I run this:

$ firefox-2 --version
Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.13, Copyright (c) 1998 - 2008 mozilla.org

It says it's version 2!

Here's my Ubuntu and firefox package information. I'm up-to-date as of 2008-04-06 at 11am EST

$ lsb_release -rd && apt-cache policy firefox-2 && apt-cache policy firefox-3.0 && apt-cache policy firefox

slashack is correct, Firefox 3 has to be closed for Firefox 2 to run. Why is that when in Gutsy you could run both simultaneously?
