Bug Description

Binary package hint: libbluetooth2

Ubuntu 8.04 beta
When removing libbluetooth from synaptics or apt-get:
I wanted to disable and remove everything related to bluetooth. Found libbluetooth2 which acts as a metapackage and removes completely! the following appz ( including nautilus ):
bluez-audio bluez-cups bluez-gnome bluez-utils evolution evolution-exchange
  evolution-plugins gnome-pilot gnome-pilot-conduits gvfs-backends libbluetooth2 libpisock9
  libpisync1 nautilus nautilus-cd-burner nautilus-sendto obex-data-server totem
  totem-plugins ubuntu-desktop

libbluetooth2 is not a meta package. Please tell us what exactly you want to do and why?

Sorry for not being clear.

sudo apt-get remove libbluetooth2

Command also removes the packages listed:
  bluez-audio bluez-cups bluez-gnome bluez-utils evolution evolution-exchange
  evolution-plugins gnome-pilot gnome-pilot-conduits gvfs-backends libbluetooth2 libpisock9
  libpisync1 nautilus nautilus-cd-burner nautilus-sendto obex-data-server totem
  totem-plugins ubuntu-desktop

This happened to be me on a fresh Ubuntu 8.04 beta install yesterday.

Although package is related to bluetooth, some packages which are reverse dependencies of ubuntu-desktop require and depend on it, like gvfs-backends or totem-plugins. You can open a task against each reverse dependency, but it's probably better to let the library package remain installed by default.

I'll close this bug as libbluetooth2 is not a meta package and is currently essential for other packages in the desktop seed, reopen if you disagree.
