Bug Description

Binary package hint: debian-installer

re:ubuntu-8.04-beta-alternate-amd64. I downloaded the iso. Tried to get the sytem to bring up the upgrade screen by inserting the CD. No upgrade dialog just the file manager showing the disc contents. Entered the terminal and typed the command shown in docs viz gksu "sh cdrom1/cdromupgrade" - nothing. Right clicked on cdromupgrade in the file manager could not invoke "sh cdromupgrade ". I wanted to pass this on just in case there is something wrong with it before final release. Thanks for you patience with us and you guys are great for the massive effort you put in. I also had a problem when I tried a net upgrade on 7.1. My system hung for hours during the installation with the terminal output showing "building a database". I lost everything when I finally rebooted. I am now going to wait for the final release and I was wondering if it is because I have the NVidia 171.04 driver installed.

I get the same thing.

Problem here is that the instructions on the web say to do 'gksu "sh /cdrom/cdromupgrade"' if the dialog is not displayed, but when you pop in the disk it mounts at /media/Xubuntu 8.04 amd64 not /cdrom

trying to run the upgrade script there seems to just hang (and I suspect it's due to spaces in the filename. . .there was a similar issue I seem to remember when upgrading to gutsy)

Do cds mount at /cdrom in the i386 version?

Thanks for your reply. would it be OK to address another issue with you
regarding the linux-restricted modules. I have been unable to get an answer
as to why the Nvidia restricted modules are packaged together with Atheros
wireless drivers. This has caused me grief when I installed the
NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-169.12 driver, as I could not then have wireless
networking functioning with the new driver. I know it is your position that
we should not leave the Debian install packages but it is very hard to keep
up with best of compiz with the restricted drivers. If you have any way to
separate restricted drivers I think it would help us. kenny

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

JeanBaptiste
hi
I was unable to resolve this but I received other posts indicating similar problems. I am not in a position to test because I reverted to a net upgrade. It is prudent I attach the other posts.
