Bug Description

Binary package hint: gvfs

Fresh Installation of Hardy 8.04 beta, installed the latest updates. Now nautilus doesn't mount my usb sticks or usb disks anymore.
Im filing this bug under "gvfs", let me know if it should be moved elsewhere.

Expected behaviour: Plug in USB Drive - wait - Nautilus window pops up, with the drives contents
What happens instead: Plug in USB Drive - wait - an Icon "USB-Laufwerk" ("USB-Drive") appears in computer:/// but I cannot mount the drive.

The error message is in germany, would be happy if someone could tell me how to provide more information.

Thank you for your bug report. What version of gvfs do you use? Could you get the debug informations requested on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices? You can ignore the lines about gnome-volume-manager which is not used in hardy

I'm using gvfs 0.2.1-1ubuntu1

By the way: gnome-volume-manager was running. Could that cause any problems?

Does it work using an another user? Did you change any nautilus setting about browsing inserted media or similar?

I'm getting this exact problem with today's updates.

It's a USB flash drive formatted NTFS, an icon appears under "computer:///", but it cannot be mounted.

Sebastien: I created a new User, the behaviour is exactly the same.
I also tried the right-click menu of the stick, but its impossible to mount the drive.

thank you for taking care. :)

I attached a screenshot of the nautilus settings.

Neil: Could you tell me which update of what package?

I need something to compare. ;)
The strange thing is that on my notebook (tp r61) the whole thing works, but its also a fresh installation of the hardy beta...

is your user in the plugdev group on this installation? the issue weird and not likely a gvfs one

yep, both (my user and the newly created one) are in the plugdev group.

Mounting that drive with gnome-mount works alright! Also unmounting is no problem then.

$ gnome-mount -d /dev/sdd1

but after that... the same problem.

Sebasiten: Sorry, I just did a bulk update - there were dozens of packages, so I can't be sure what fixed it

do you still get the issue? can you describe exact steps to trigger it? could you run /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd -r on a command line and note what is written when trying to mount the drive in nautilus to a comment?

Yep. The issue is still there. It was a fresh installation of Hardy Beta. I'm already thinking about
reinstalling the whole box, when Hardy is out, cause the same thing doesn't happen on my Notebook (also fresh installation of hardy beta).

Steps to reproduce:
 - Insert USB Drive
 - Icon appears under computer://
 - Double click on the Icon -> Error "File cannot be mounted"

I appended the output of "gvfsd -r".
It is kind of interesting that there was no output until I pressed F5 in the nautilus computer:// window...
