gnome-panel crashes with pidgin buddylist popup under compiz

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

After I enabled desktop effects under 8.04 the Pidgin buddylist started to pop up quite frequently for non apparent reasons and every time it does that gnome-panel quits and/or crashes instantly and restarts after that. Don't really know which of these three things are to blame if not all of them...
