On a edit box to any prompt on a web page, if Firefox is on Full screen mode, on each character type, the screen turn black and come back.

No problem, if Compiz-Fusion is off.

The problem appear with the prompt and some previous answer hints appear. After a number of bytes enter and not corresponding with the liste of values, the screen stop of flashing, because the hint list stop to appear.

Not only when entering text on a prompt. Also when an hyperling with hint, the screen flash.

The problem works with the current link on this page "Also affects: + Project.... +Distributing/Package" when i put the mouse cursor over the link.

The problem appear also with "Evince" on FullScreen. When i let the mouse
cursor on a button, the "hint" make the screen flash too.

With "OO.Calc" no problem, but i don't have a lot of control. the hint on
the button to return of normal screen not make the flash.
With OO.Writer, i put a text with an internet link and i let the mouse
cursor , the hint doesn't make the screen flash.

With AbiWord, the screen flash when other box screen appears,

The problem is related with Compiz-fusion for some applications. I found
also others different behaviors with the appareance of windows who not
appears when i put the Effects 3D off.

I asked to somebody who has a "System 76->pangolin" with Ubuntu
7.10pre-installed by the company, run with Compiz, and he confirm me
the same
behavior with Firefox.

I upgraded today the ram from 512 Mb to 1.25 Gb. I begin to work with
still 45 minutes only.
The problem doesn't appear now.
I will work more long time and let the PC with the power ON and let it with
the screen saver for some days.

This is a still happening in Intrepid, and I think it's a problem with Compiz.

To reproduce:
I'm using compiz and firefox. If firefox is in fullscreen mode and I move the mouse over a {link|image with alt text}, the little hint window popup causes the screen to flash: the desktop background appears, and then firefox reappears and then the little yellow hint box appears.

It seems to me like a conflict between firefox's fullscreen mode (and other programs that use the same technique) and compiz. I'm not sure how to debug it further. The problem does not occur with firefox in windowed mode or with compiz turned off.

I put off Compiz when i'm using my account.
But when i got this message last winter, the laptop memory was at 512 MB.
On april, I upgrade memory, I put 1 GB + and using one of the 256 MB. (512
was 2 x 256).
Not I have 1.25 GB of memory. The problem doesn't appear with Firefox after
that, and I run rarely in Full Screen Mode. But i got some problems with
Compiz after a long time when the session in on, I lost the menu bar on the
Windows application. But I thing it's a known proplem. I never test it for
a while.
I'm still using 7.10, maybe I will upgrade in a few month. I installed
FireFox 3 manually. It's working properly. But I didn't test for the
previous bug.

I installed 8.04 on another PC and 8.10 on another one, but i didn't use
them often. Their not my principal station for working. And i couldn't
use Compiz, too old PC or the video card not support 3D.
