Bug Description

Dear Ubuntu-Team,
I have quite a new Acer Travelmate 8104 Laptop. When I want to run the Live/Install-DVD in any
modus (live, server, linux, expert) the in order to install the system, it won't commence after
the third line which sounds appr like: 'unpacking kernel...'. I tried the 'vga=771' and 'hw-
detect/start_pcmcia=false' options. Without success.
Experience with other linuxes on this Computer are: I tried to install debian (sarge-stable)
before, which could not set up my TFT 1680x1050 display. Right now I have Fedora Core 4
installed but I it crashes whenever the pcmcia is loaded. I can only make the FC4 system start
by manually deactivating it on every startup. Kernel options 'nopcmcia' and 'hw-detect/
start_pcmcia=false' won't help. Additionally the X-server doesn't recognise my ATI Radeon
Mobility X700 and I can choose 1400x1050 as the maximum resolution.

Which version did you try?

Did the debian-installer/framebuffer=false option get your further into the

Hi,
unfortunately not. As before, the screen says something like 'Uncompressing ...
kernel...'. Then the curser goes to the next line and flashes while nothing
happens anymore.

i could solve this bug partially:
by adding the following boot options: noapic nolapic hw-detect/start_pcmcia=false

this resolves the problem of the computer actually booting after displaying the 'Uncompressing ...kernel...' line.

Another problem remains: the x server does not start properly (tft display switches itself off) even though i can change settings in text mode. the 'vga=771' option doesn't help. I
will file another bug regarding this issue after i tried to change some more settings.

This looks more like a kernel bug. Please retest against breezy. If the problem still persists there, then please also test against an Edgy Knot 1 CD.

Thanks

Since Hoary is not supported anymore, please test against new version of Ubuntu. I'm setting this to incomplete. If it still doesn't work please attach Xorg.0.log and lspci -vv as separate attachments. Thanks.
