Bug Description

[ Impact ]

Users wanting to use the Ergo-L layout need to manually install
files as root in `/usr/share/X11/xkb/...` in order to use the
layout, which is not ideal.

[ Test Plan ]

Install the new xkb-data package, verify that the layout can
be selected in GNOME and that the layout works properly.

[ Where problems could occur ]

The layout may use features only available in new releases
of xkeyboard-config.

[ Original Bug Report ]

Ergo‑L is an ergonomic keyboard layout meant to optimize the typing
experience in French, English, and programming. Accents, diacritics
and fancy typographic symbols are typed using a custom dead key, but
it is fully implemented in the keymap itself as an `ISO_Level5_Latch.

Below is a more detailed presentation of the layout (in French):

Brian Murray (brian-murray) wrote : Please test proposed package

Hello Agathe, or anyone else affected,

Accepted xkeyboard-config into noble-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/2.41-2ubuntu1.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-noble to verification-done-noble. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-noble. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Test successful for Noble SRU, steps:

 * Enable proposed
 * Install xkb-data/noble-proposed
 * Add a new layout in GNOME
 * Restart the session because the layout selector does not see the just installed new layout
 * After the session is restarted, the layout is available and works as expected

Attached screenshot of the layout selector.

The lack of translation of the layout in French is expected, as upstream explicitly asked to not modify the .po files during the merge request of the patch upstream.
