laggy interactions with windows (moving the terminal in vscode, opening a new tab on MSEdge or Firefox etc)

Thanks for the bug report. Please start by removing any locally installed extensions:

  cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/
  rm -rf extensions

and then log in again. If the problem persists after that then while it is happening please run:

  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
  ps -e -o pid,pcpu,comm --sort -pcpu | head -20 > tops.txt

and attach the resulting text files here.

It appears VSCode and MSEdge are to blame, using most/all of your CPU:

it is VSCode that has the problem with Ubuntu, the issue was resolved in this thread very recently
