Binary package hint: empathy
When installing empathy, only the following package are installed:
empathy libempathy-gtk11 libempathy11 libmissioncontr
and telepathy-gabble telepathy-salut are only in recommanded.
it is impossible to do something with empathy; no connection manager; no account creation.

You are right, but you patch is incorrect - empathy souldn't depend on one particular telepathy- connection- manager implementation, like telepathy-gabble, but should depend on virtual package telepathy- connection- manager instead (because not all empathy users wanna use jabber/xmpp, for example some use just telepathy-sofiasip, telepathy-haze or telepathy- butterfly) . If we think, that most empaty users wanna have telepathy-gabble connection manager then we should depend on "telepathy-gabble | telepathy- connection- manager" .
According to telepathy-gnome in Recommends I think it's not good decision, as telepathy-gnome metapackage depends on empathy package and telepathy-core metapackage. Instead of recommending telepathy-gnome we should recommend or suggest telepathy-core metapackage.
I've fixed Depends and Recommends in improved patch I'm attaching to this bugreport.
