Bug Description

Note that I started Ubuntu bug-report ON my Host-OS Ubuntu 24.04.

Every week I try to install Ubuntu 24.10 on Virtualbox and every time the installation ends up in an endless loop running at ~70% CPU load on my Ryzen 3 2200G, while there is no real disk IO not to the VDI file and not from the ISO file. I tried to enter the terminal Home+F3 but that is blocked. The installation goes wrong say after half a minute, after I did type in the last information. The size of the VDI file is 1.1 GB at the moment of the loop.

It failed on Virtualbox 7.0.16 and today on Virtualbox 7.0.18.

Note I did install Ubuntu Mate 24.10 and Ubuntu Unity 24.10 without any issue.

I remember I had the same issue with 24.04 LTS, but I bypassed it after a while by upgrading a VBox copy of Ubuntu 23.10 to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.

I have added a screenshot from the host system monitor to proof my point.

I tried various times again with the same result. However the last time I installed the default version and I did not select to check for drivers during the install. The system did install, but it was difficult to detect, because it ended again in the loop. I had to "power-off" the VBox-VM, but when I rebooted from the vdi file (HDD) the installed system loaded and everything worked fine.

I've tried two extended (old normal) installs with and without checking for the missing drivers. If the system checks for drivers to use in the VBox machine, it goes wrong and hangs early in the process. If I install it without the checking for missing drivers the system installs. But at the end of the install it hangs again and I have to power it off. Rebooting the system from the vdi file (HDD) goes fine.

I tried to install on OpenZFS, but that one fails too, probably because it install the ZFS drivers during the installation.
