Bug Description

You start the computer, LCD is ON, and it is ON 4 hours later.
I have set 2 minutes in GPM to switch LCD off. Screensaver disabled. it does nothing.

So I need to open a terminal and manually put : xset dpms 0 0 120 , and this goes OK.

But later xset is again at 0 0 0 automatically, and LCD always ON.
(I repported this to GPM, but they say it's a hal problem)

I also have this problem. xset dpms force off turns it off but after a second it turns back on.

Not same bug. I continue with this problem with:
gnome-power-manager 2.22.1-1ubuntu2

But Now when computer boots screen turns off first time, but not second time. And after suspend/resume screen doesn't turn off. I need to lock screen and unlock to activate it again. Or xset dpms 0 0 60.

This bug persists. It's the everyday history. I need to put manualy xset dpms 0 0 120 in order to screen turn off. And second time if ON always again. I spend my day doing xsets.

It is definitely a GNOME problem. I actually switched over to KDE for now so that my monitor would power itself off.

I don't understand why is there few people reporting this bug, maybe there are dupes, or perhaps screen powers off to most ubuntu users and this problem is related only to some machines (mine, Thinkpad X41), but this bug is Real, and it can damage the screen lifetime, so if most ubuntu users have this problem it would be critical.

Same problem here.

Ist started about a week ago when both my Laptops (Thinkpad T42, Thinkpad X60T) suddenly both stopped to turn the Display off after some update.

This Bug is reappearing AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN, it annoys the crap out of me.

Having just found this bug, I've had this problem on my Thinkpad T30 since Hardy, and even now into Intrepid. Any movement?
