Bug Description
Probably an issue with libc causes ls and tar to core dump when run, so don't know how I can get you files as requested.

The machine is an HP Victus laptop with AMD Ryzen processor, Nvidia RTX2050 video, 32 Gig RAM and 1 TB SSD drive. Was running Ubuntu 23.10 fully updated before running 'do-release-upgrade -d'.
I already finished successfully upgrading two other antique machines (AMD Athlon II desktop and Asus R500A laptop with Intel I7-3630QM processor. Both with 8 G RAM).
I did manage to create a cpio archive of /var/log/ dist-upgrade directory with:
root@multivac: /var/log/ dist-upgrade# find . -type f -print | cpio -ov > /tmp/dist- upgrade. cpio system_ state.tar. gz
./history.log
./apt.log
./apt-clone_
./main.log
./apt-term.log
./eipp.log.xz
./lspci.txt

Hope it helps.
Note that ls works if I don't give it any flags.
