We have code to disable udisks2 automounting in https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-desktop-provision/blob/e7209a3122b557962e866eafbcd67364928c0d75/ci/snap/bootstrap/local/launcher#L45

I wonder if this is absent from Xubuntu for some reason.

I checked and the /run/udev/rules.d/90-udisks-inhibit.rules file was properly created when I clicked on the "Install Xubuntu 24.04 LTS" button.

Well... after I chose to "trust" the installer since apparently it is untrusted.

I installed today and the installer started just clicking on the desktop icon, so it was already trusted.

In addition to those udev rules there's some GNOME-specific code in the front end that disables auto-mounting, screen blanking, etc via gsettings. https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-desktop-provision/blob/5a60b958ce86bd74031fb572e54724be4cae5906/packages/ubuntu_provision/lib/src/services/desktop_service.dart

I suspect we'll need something similar for other desktop environments.
