This scenario isn't supported. The rootfs must be formatted.

The FS in question is actually formatted in f2fs, just that the installer shows it as "unformatted" for a reason that I don't get.

Before you object "f2fs isn't supported", I actually managed to install to a newly formatted f2fs, again showing as "unformatted" in the installer for a reason I don't get.
