Bug Description
Hardy Beta clean install.
System freezes during shutdown, after closing all applications and the panel, it leaves me with an empty screen with gnome's background image and stays there forever.

Also if I shutdown from a console (ctrl-alt-f2, shutdown -h now) it works.
The problem is reproducible 100% of the time. It has been happening since my initial Beta install, and the daily updates have not fixed it.
This is with Hardy _AMD64, NVIDIA 8600 with nvidia-glx-new and compiz, setup using "Desktop effects" with no extra tweakings.
Not really sure if this is a gnome problem or an X problem.

Confirmed - I am experiencing precisely the same issue. In my case I can make the shutdown continue by pressing the power button (triggering an ACPI shutdown event). My setup

This problem first appeared in the last few days, after some updates (as far as I can tell).
