Bug Description

Binary package hint: sawfish

Some of the (german) texts are truncated in sawfish-ui;
it seems from the first non-ascii char on.

To reproduce:

Install Ubuntu with the german locale,
choose sawfish as the login session, login,
click the middle mouse button to open the main menu,
select "Anpassen", then "Tastenkombinationen",
a window opens and looks like in the attached screenshot.
The text "Modifikatortaste(n) f" is truncated.

The complete text can be found in /usr/share/locale/de/LC_MESSAGES/sawfish.mo
and looks like this:
"Modifikatortaste(n) für Vorgabe-Tastenkombinationen."

More examples can be found in other parts of the GUI,
just choose another submenu under "Anpassen".

I have the exact same problem (in French, not in German).

The importance of this bug is marked as low, it is inapporpriate: the importance should be at least normal, because it makes sawfish-ui almost unusable in some cases. See the attached screenshot: several options appear exactly with the same label, so you just have to try blindly.

Note also that locales are not respected: I started the program by saying "env LC_ALL=C LANG=C sawfish-ui" and I still get some messages in French, not all of them. It seems some messages are provided by sawfish in the locale used when it was started, while others are provided by sawfish-ui.

This bug has been fixed in librep 0.90.2, other UTF-8 releated issues have been fixed in Sawfish 1.5.0.

BTW, the current versions are: librep 0.90.5, rep-gtk 0.90.2, Sawfish 1.6.1 and sawfish-pager 0.7.2, so Ubuntu (and Debian) are heavily outdated.

Hi!
If this problem still exists with Natty, Oneiric and Precise, please assign ubuntu-translations.
Thanks.
