Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

This is similar to a previously reported problem concerning switching languages.

I upgraded from Gutsy. After the upgrade, the US keybord
was configured.

I use only one keyboard. It has an Italian layout.
When I set the layout with system>preferences>keyboard,
the layout is correct.
However after a reboot, the layout is no longer active.
When I open the keyboard preferences the Italian setting
is still displayed, it just doesn-t work. I have to delete it
and add it again before the keyboard settings are active.

I'm experiencing this too. I have a Hardy beta system, upgraded from Gutsy. The default keyboard layout is USA, and I configured Romanian as a secondary layout.

After a reboot, I try toggling between USA and Romanian, either by clicking on the keyboard indicator applet, or by pressing the defined shortcut. The indicator applet changes, but the layout is still USA, no matter what the applet shows.

If I go to Keyboard preferences, remove the Romanian layout and add it back again, it all works - I can use the Romanian layout. It continues to work until the next reboot.

xorg version: 1:7.3+10ubuntu7

Same problem here. The keyboard layout is set to USA in the login screen (which is really annoying to enter a password) and when entering the password for the keyring to connect to a wireless network. After that, it switches to my default Belgian layout. I've noticed it was a problem in older Ubuntu versions, but the problem was solved in newer versions. It seems to be back though...

Same problem here. Only using Swiss French keyboard. In Hardy Beta 1 I initially didn't have that problem until some update 4-5 days ago.

Same for me: Upgraded from correct configured Gutsy to Hardy with Gnome-Desktop
Uname -r: 2.6.24-15-generic, latest update from 08.04.08
Build Operating System: Linux Ubuntu (xorg-server 2:1.4.1~git20080131-1ubuntu6)

After reboot the keyboard -layout is always set to the US layout.

Using System-Preferences-Keyboard I can see, the German keyboard is selected. I have to remove the Germany-Keyboard and add it again to change the setting.

Other alternative is to access "Configure - KDE Controll Module". Changing keyboard to DE works as well (but again, after reboot this info is lost).

As well I have the hue-color problem (ping/yellow) shadow arround my windows. Maybe this is related ?

If I should give additional info - please let me know (this is my first bug-report)

I installed Hardy in English using an English keyboard layout (easier for me) and then after install I tried to set the keyboard layout to German. The old Administration->Keyboard interface is gone and we're only left with the basic keyboard layout preferences in which I removed the old layout and put German in instead.

Problem 1) This doesn't affect the login window so you have to enter the username in password using US keyboard layout
Problem 2) Even though the keyboard applet says German, the keyboard is still US in all applications

As a workaround I hacked xorg.conf so at least the machine is usable
