(This may actually be a wishlist item, and if so, please feel free to categorize it accordingly.)

Is it possible to have the =400 and =450 fields of an authority record indexed so that when you perform an Author or Subject search in the catalog, these fields will be searched, as well?

As an example, if you perform an Author search for "Therese Anne Fowler," you will receive no results. However, if you perform an Author search for "Therese Fowler" or "Fowler, Therese," you will receive results. The =100 field in the authority record for Therese Fowler has "Fowler, Therese."

There is also a =400 field that has "Fowler, Therese Anne," but if you perform an Author search with her name typed out exactly in that manner, you will still receive no results. (Though it is worth noting that if you perform a Keyword search with any of these variations of her name, you will receive results.)

It would be extemely helpful if an Author search would include that =400 field, so if someone performs a search for a term that appears in a =400 field of an authority record, they will still receive results that only include the information in the =100 field of the authority record.

Similarly, including the =450 field of an authority record in a Subject search would likewise be helpful.

As another example to illustrate what I mean, in NC Cardinal we are looking to replace problematic subject headings with our own local versions that are more inclusive. In instances where an inclusive term appears in the =450 field of a problematic subject heading authority record, or a problematic term appears in the =450 field of an inclusive subject heading authority record, it would be nice if when someone performs a search for one term, results with the corresponding term in its =655 fields also appear.

That way people would be able to search for either the outdated term or the newer term and still receive the same results.

Is this something that is possible?

Currently the "browse" search options search the 4XX fields in the authority tables.

It would be more useful to patrons if both "search" and "browse" options did.
