Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I am using the NEW libc6_2.7-9ubuntu2_i386 that was supposed to fix the stack smashing problem, but I am still seeing the issue. I just tried upgrading from Kubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 Beta for the first time.

I cannot submit the KNotify bug report because it is crashing (probably due to the failure of the upgrade). I also cannot cut-and-paste the error because the "Error" window has top-focus and it looks like if I close it then it will remove the update window too.

Ok, I just closed the update manager and a Gnome-ish box popped up asking me if I wanted to report an error, but launchpad.net told me that my Request URI was too long. I am just going to submit a screenshot of the update-manager terminal window to verify the error.

I am confused because I thought this was fixed a week ago. Is the information contained in this mailing list post wrong? https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-announce/2008-March/000401.html

I just want to say I was able to complete the upgrade after using the following commands I found on the forums:

sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -f install

Once I completed these steps, I ran the update-manager again and it worked fine. I'm not sure if that helps with the bug, but maybe it's something.

Just tidying up bug reports. This appears to be another instance of bug 205079 for which a fix has apparently been released. Marking as duplicate
