Bug Description

nvidia-fabricmanager-535 is missing from the graphics driver ppa but exists in the jammy repos.

This causes dependency errors as it tries to install a different version from the ppa driver version.

Could we add this package to the graphics driver ppa with a version that matches the driver?

affects: nvidia-settings (Ubuntu) → nvidia-graphics-drivers-535-server (Ubuntu)
affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-535-server (Ubuntu) → nvidia
summary: - nvidia-fabricmanager missing from ppa
+ nvidia-fabricmanager-535 missing from ppa
description: updated
affects: nvidia → nvidia-drivers-ubuntu

The version I'm specifically looking for is 535.129.03 which exists on the above nvidia page.

But I am asking can we add the nvidia-fabricmanager package to the ppa for all releases. GPUs with nvswitch do not work with correctly without the corresponding fabricmanager package.

The package already gets build in the main jammy repos, this request is to also build it in the ppa when the drivers are built there.

Fabric-manager is built from the server driver package, so you're basically asking to double the effort for the maintainer of the ppa (which now equals to 1 community member). Besides, you can only have one version of given source package on an archive (like ppa), so you can't have multiple 535's there. And certainly not .129 since the ppa already has .154 and can't go back in time.

If it's not possible to backport the fix, that's fine - it would be good to just do it going forward?

Currently the ppa driver doesn't work fully (on GPUs with nvswitch) without the corresponding fabricmanager package, which does not exist in the ppa repo. That is the crux of the bug report.

If you try to install a specific ppa driver version, you need to hope the corresponding fabricmanager package still exists in the main repo (or find the historic version that matches, if that exists).

The ppa is (at least historically) aimed at desktop systems, not the server/cloud.. That's why it doesn't even have the server driver versions.
