Should I report a different bug?

Hm.. My problem was gone, update manager warned me about several broken packages, but it did continue. I unselected the language-pack upgrades, installed the rest, and then checked them and installed the language packs. Everything's ok now!

I had the same error - text is below. It also warned that I had 5 broken packages. It's all better now - I did nothing other than clicking OK. Screenshots are attached.

Same issue that itismike reported. I was able to get around it by installing all the other updates except language-pack-en (I was using the update manager), then install language-pack-en independently on a second pass of the update.

the same happend to me with the german language packages at first, when that one was deleted for all the other language packages except the english. it doesn't really solve the problem, but i deleted all other language packages until the english one was remaining, then everything worked fine.

Confirmed. Fresh installation of beta, upgrade through Update Manager, English language pack. Suggested workaround dpkg --install --force-overwrite /var/cache/apt/archives/language-pack-en_1%3a8.04+20080317_all.deb leads to 5 broken packages but upgrade is able to continue nevertheless.

Correction: the Update Manager is complaining about 5 broken packages, but after the upgrade finishes I ran aptitude dist-upgrade on CLI to make sure and everything looks fine.

I have the same issue here with Chinese language package.
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/language-pack-zh_1%3a8.04+20080317_all.deb: trying to overwrite `/usr/share/locale-langpack/zh_CN/LC_MESSAGES/shared-mime-info.mo', which is also in package language-pack-gnome-zh

I could use apt-get dist-upgrade to solve it but scim seems do not work then.

I had trouble with a fresh installation of beta last night when I selected Japanese from the very beginning of the install. I suspect that the trouble was this bug (though I haven't gone back to verify that).

I just wanted to say that after a fix for this bug is put into place, it would probably be a good idea to try a fresh beta installation again using Japanese or Chinese from the very beginning just to see what happens.
