Bug Description

I have an Asus G1 laptop. I recently upgraded to Hardy beta via a dist-upgrade from 7.10.

One thing that appears to have broken is the idle auto dimming feature when on battery power.

The screen will dim after a period of inactivity, but when I move the mouse or use the keyboard, the screen will not brighten again. This feature worked flawlessly in 7.10.

I can still manually adjust the LCD brightness using the gnome brightness applet as well as the keyboard hotkeys.

I am experiencing the same problem on a Sony PCG-71HL (945GM/GMS/GME chipset).

Sorry I should add that I did a fresh install as that is slightly different from the initial bug description.

I've marked this bug as duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/199522 .
It seems to me that there is common problem: When idle, brightness decreases (let's say to specified level). But when there is activity (user moves mouse or use keyboard), the screen won't brighten back again.

Feel free to remove duplicate mark if the problem isn't primarily the one i've described.
