Bug Description
The description of this package seems confusing.
It says: "DNS root data including root zone...", while in fact it contains the root hints file, which is my mind is something different. The root zone is the zone file containing the TLD's: https:/

Maybe the full description from the Debian archive makes more sense? I'm not familiar with this terminology so it's hard for me to make an accurate assessment here.

This package contains various root zone related data as published by IANA to be used by various DNS software as a common source of DNS root zone data, namely:
* Root Hints (root.hints)
* Root Trust Anchors (root.key, root.ds)
Adding this to server- triage- discuss to get some more thoughts on this.
