Bug Description

The gnome-magnifier does not seem to work at all, for instance when chosen from
the accessibility control panel. When started from the command line, I see this
output. Hopefully it helps:

wolfgang@ubuntu:~$ magnifier

This bug may have been filed against the wrong component; the test, running the
'magnifier' binary from the command line, is not valid in the form given here.

Try 'magnifier -v -m' for something that will actually put output on screen;
also see "magnifier --usage".

thanks, it works for me, closing the bug. Feel free to reopen if that's still an
issue for you.

I showed the command-line output just so you would have some more information.

I actually was trying to use it from the Applications menu. It still does not
work - the startup notification cursor shows for a while and then stops. I
assume that the application crashed while starting.

That works fine here with the current version. What happens when you run
"gnopernicus" from the command line?

In case it is useful information: xorg.conf says that the video card (or
driver, at least) is a GeForce2 MX/MX 400.

Clicking the radio button for the magnifier in the Startup section, and clicking
Apply, does nothing, and gives no output on the terminal. On my Breezy install
on another computer this starts the magnifier.

Our magnifier setup has seen many changes since 2005. Is anyone still seeing this in Edgy or Feisty. If not we should close it as fixed.

Works nicely for me on feisty, both from the command line and from Orca (and it seems to work for others as well). Please reopen if you still have crashes on Feisty. We are also considering a shift to a Compiz-based solution for Feisty+1.

The program 'magnifier' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was '180'.
  (Details: serial 6536 error_code 180 request_code 153 minor_code 12)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
