I think that it is the sound card build in the motherboard Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Z87N-WIFI I may need the right drivers for the sound card to stop this flickering.

I plugged in a old jack and the flicker stopped of all but the sound icon now it's trying to mute it so it flickers that mute icon and the sound icon that i have playing and it's stay and working but the flicker dock top right corner for sound still flickers and i can hear it out on the speakers i plugged into the computer. It is a strange sound on and off with the flickering of the icon.

unplug sound jack from port and all icons flicker now, and when plugged back in just the sound flickers and the sound from speakers on and off.

affects: ubuntu → gnome-shell (Ubuntu)

When I go into settings sound the system volume flickers volume 0 to where it is at and the output all flickers its settings and back and forth back and forth when noise on the speakers. So it is something with the drivers. I think I also found that with windows it did the same things until the right driver was install that stopped that from Gigabyte but they have no Linux drivers only windows. I thought that I could unzip the sound card driver file and then some how put that driver in the Linux sound driver file or how would you do that?

it look like it is the Output Device - LINE OUT - Built-in Audio that is causing the problem

You should also avoid using 'sudo apt remove --purge' because it will break the system even more.

on fresh install of Ubuntu 22.04.3 lts this is the problem from the motherboard audio controller and some how windows got this working after the right driver install or something stop it form doing that same thing, but i wish i knew how to do it on Ubuntu with the driver install.

i removed all audio drivers and still the beeping and noise on that sound port out/controller. something is turning it off and on or mute and unmute not sure why it is cycling. if the line out audio would stop cycling then it would be fine
