Bug Description

Hi,

During the recent test rebuilds, one of the rebuild configurations was against a snapshot of the upcoming glibc 2.39.

libvirt failed to build in that configuration, failing the libvirt:bin / nwfilterxml2firewalltest test. This has been confirmed locally with a more recent snapshot.

See https://launchpadlibrarian.net/706838409/buildlog_ubuntu-noble-amd64.libvirt_9.6.0-1ubuntu2_BUILDING.txt.gz for full logs, https://people.canonical.com/~ginggs/ftbfs-report/test-rebuild-20231215-noble-glibc-noble.html for the glibc rebuild report, and https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-toolchain-r/+archive/ubuntu/glibc for the most recent glibc snapshot.

I'm currently focused on cataloguing failures, but I'll try to investigate it if nobody has picked it up by then.

Hey Simon,

I'm working on the merge for libvirt 9.10.0. Unfortunately it has a regression so that's why I haven't uploaded it yet, but the package should be good to perform a build test and see if it has the same problem. The PPA is here:

Well, that was an easy win. With a newer snapshot (that contains among others the revert of a qsort change that made it unstable, which tends to break test suites here and there), the package appears to build just fine. I'm closing this as Fix Released on glibc, I'm not sure how you want to handle it on the Server side, Sergio?

Thanks, Simon.

I'm still working on that (unrelated) libvirt regression that's
preventing me from uploading it to Noble. Once that's fixed, I'll mark
this bug as Fix Release for libvirt as well.
