Bug Description

Dell Precision 3660

I upgraded BIOS to 2.11.1 which also upgraded some other things.

When I login into Xubuntu I get a frozen gray screen

jim@jim:~/Scripts$ lsb_release -rd
No LSB modules are available.
Description: Ubuntu 23.10
Release: 23.10

jim@jim:~/Scripts$ lspci -k | grep -EA3 'VGA|3D|Display'

 Subsystem: Dell AlderLake-S GT1
 Kernel driver in use: i915
 Kernel modules: i915

jim@jim:~/Scripts$ uname -r
6.5.0-14-generic

I can boot into the install flashdrive under Try Xubuntu and the display works fine.

Flash Drive:
xubuntu@xubuntu:~$ lspci -k | grep -EA3 'VGA|3D|Display'
0000:00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation AlderLake-S GT1 (rev 0c)
 Subsystem: Dell AlderLake-S GT1
 Kernel driver in use: i915
 Kernel modules: i915
xubuntu@xubuntu:~$ uname -r
6.5.0-9-generic

Please provide a workaround as this is my primary workstation.

Let me know if you need any additional information.

Thank you

How frustrating.... I have spent hours researching this issue including numerous reboots and logins.

After opening this bug I logged in to get my processes started expecting the frozen gray screen and the display came up without an issue.

If there is anything that can be gained by further examination of this issue please let me know how I can help. If not, please close this bug.

Thank you

Xorg itself doesn't paint anything, it will start with a black window. So it's likely to be a Xubuntu bug. Since it can't be reproduced then let's leave it Incomplete and it will close automatically after two months of inactivity.
