Bug Description

lubuntu noble daily on
- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6230, 7gb amd/ati rv610/radeon hd2400 pro/xt)

this is NOT a new bug... i haven't found a bug report where I've reported it before sorry (and bug reports where I've mentioned it relate to different screen alignments & different situations).

** summary

I notice it takes awhile to move pointer from one screen to another; at least in monitor.settings my displays are touching (see picture for actual screen alignment in that window). however there is a huge gap between them as shown in the left & right SCREENGRAB, which is NOT reflected in the monitor.settings window.

PLEASE NOTE: I've logged out, returning to the TRY/INSTALL dialog, then logged in again before confirming the issue was still there, opening pcmanfm-qt and dragging that window such that it SHOULD appear partially on my-left monitor & partially on my-right, but instead having it disappear between displays. monitor.settings was re-opened (no change made) & monitors still show as touching!! Then finally I pressed
PRINTSCREEN to grab a picture which is attached & shows issues

** expected results

given monitor.settings shows screens as touching.. I should be able to move pointer from my.left screen to my.right easily without having to drag for a long time between them, and have windows not disappear between them.

** actual results

monitor.settings show displays connected; alas system acts (inc. printscreen) as if a LARGE GAP exists between windows, which I can't use.

The prior box I booted (today) shares these same displays, and I did NOT experience issue there.

No issue on
- dell [optiplex] 780 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd 5000/6000/7350/8350)

related are

- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openbox/+bug/1845756

but i do NOT see what I've attempted to describe here in those bug reports, and I did not experience issues I've described in those & other reports I found here... but I do believe they're related...

*** ALERT ALERT ALERT ***

I just changed to XFWM4 instead of openbox; and issue occurs there... have I filed against (and am blaming the) incorrect package ???

My actions were

- sudo apt install xfwm4
- logout, i got SDDM display; hit ENTER; then get the TRY/INSTALL dialog...

issue remains; gap between displays, and pcmanfm-qt when opened as window (default size) can be dragged between monitors and if dropped will disappear (offscreen).. yet monitor.settings when opened shows monitors touching??

open session.settings this time & changed WM to xfwm4 (from openbox), logout ..

back to SDDM, hit ENTER & get the TRY/INSTALL dialog again..

again on hitting TRY I'm logged in.. and

issue remains; gap between displays, and pcmanfm-qt when opened as window (default size) can be dragged between monitors and if dropped will disappear (offscreen).. yet monitor.settings when opened shows monitors touching??

OPENBOX is no longer being used; I expected the issue to have resolved itself (it has on prior cycles where I've experienced this... thus am I missing something, or blaming the wrong thing??)

On most boxes where I have screen issues; I have vertical alignment of monitors (one above the other) which I don't have here.. I'm missing something, but am tired so am stopping here (tonight anyway).

are *not* affected (I notice no gap) when tested with the current daily Lubuntu Noble live.

I only rarely see this myself... I've found the older issue though, so marking this duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxqt-config/+bug/1882411
