Bug Description

Today's security upgrade to mysql-server-5.0 5.0.45-1ubuntu3.3 failed for me on an AMD 64 platform with an error message "access denied for debian-sys-maint". After the failed upgrade, I was no longer able to start or stop the MySQL service with the script in /etc/init.d.mysql, as I received the same error message.

After manually changing the privileges for the debian-sys-maint user with the password found in /etc/mysql/debian.cnf, the upgrade continued.
