ubuntu-image 3.1 fails to properly prepare gadget tree

I'm getting the following error:

$ sudo ubuntu-image classic -w workdir/ -O output/ ubuntu-images/ubuntu-pi-arm64.yaml

[4] build_gadget_tree
[5] prepare_gadget_tree

Error: Error copying gadget.yaml to workdir/gadget.yaml: unable to open workdir/unpack/gadget/meta/gadget.yaml: open workdir/unpack/gadget/meta/gadget.yaml: no such file or directory
The gadget.yaml file is expected to be located in a "meta" subdirectory of the provided built gadget directory.

I confirm I am able to reproduce. We are looking into it.

I proposed a fix in https://github.com/snapcore/pi-gadget/pull/104.

https://launchpad.net/snap-pi is now fixed. I tested again and the build is working fine.
