Laptop not recovering after Lid Close

Closed laptop lid (10:32) and after about an hour opened it back up (11:30). System was responsive and I could hear notifications, but the screen was completely dark and the laptop keys were not lit up. I was holding down my power button on the keyboard but the system was not turning off. I eventually managed to reboot by blindly typing on an external USB keyboard.
