Bug Description

data collected for https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2039882

[Dell Inspiron 16 7610]

kernel 6.3 looks to be missing some port of the bug fix from 5.19 or got a regression

before and including kernel 5.15 there was a bug that after locking the screen and logging back audio via HDMI was disappearing. Later the bug was fixed and definitely not present in 5.19

However, this bug is present in 6.x kernels included in Lunar and Mantic as well as in 6.5.7-060507.202310102154

Currently I rolled back to 5.19 to confirm that this issue is fixed in this kernel.

Were you encountering the problem when the data was collected? I.e. did you lock and unlock and confirm audio is gone before collecting the data?

in 6.5.0 even after boot there was no sound. I tried to switch output from HMDI 1 to HDMI 2 and later to internal speakers. Only laptop speakers work fine, HDMI output does not work

Please give me the output of the following command

Before screen locking (there's still HDMI audio)
1. dmesg -c > before.dmesg
2. pacmd list-sinks
3. pacmd list-sources
4. pacmd list-devices

When HDMI audio disappear
1. dmesg -c > after.dmesg
and all pacmd commands output.

Will need that for further debug. Thanks

hi Chris,
after 6.5 (maybe even 6.4) there is no HDMI sound at all, it has completely disappeared

maksim@darmbeliaev:~$ pacmd list-sinks > list-sinks.txt
maksim@darmbeliaev:~$ pacmd list-sources > list-sources.txt
maksim@darmbeliaev:~$ pacmd list-devices > list-devices.txt

I narrowed the bug to the following case:
kernel 6.1.91 works just fine on the latest firmware. I attached logs before and after logout

kernel 6.2.0 works after boot, after Ctrl+L and logging back, sound disappears. I attach logs before and after

PS
I also tested 6.1.28 and it also works just fine
