Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-device-manager

The tool gnome-device-manager doesn't seem to be installed by default under Hardy, even though in Gutsy it was.

I think the tool should be installed in Hardy by default because it proves to be a very useful debugging tool for hardware functionality, especially for less experience users who are not comfortable with using terminal commands to debug hardware functionality.

It was very practical to have this tool in Gutsy to have a quick glance to see how certain hardware was detected to see if there maybe something went wrong in case of problems.

Thank you for taking time of reporting bugs. I guess this tool was removed on purpose and although I share your views, here is not the place to discuss it. I suggest you write to the ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list which is intended for this kind of debate. See http://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/Ubuntu-devel-discuss.
