I get the same, also 8.04 - This may be only with v 1.3.4 of audacity though - I've heard 1.3.3 works fine ..... odd to test

I had exactly the same problem using 1.3.3 in gutsy. (Haven't yet tried it in 1.3.4)

We have the same error, except that we cannot even record the first track, when using 1.3.4 on Gutsy and Hardy.

1. Is there a workaround known?
2. Is there a way to back out of 1.3.4 and use 1.3.3 instead?

As a workaround, it worked for us to remove jackd.

I had this same issue. I went into preferences and noticed that audacity was using OSS for audio. I set playback and recording to "ALSA: default" and everything seems to be working perfectly. I was able to record multi-track audio clips without any problem.
