Bug Description

I'm using dovecot 1.0.beta3-3ubuntu5.5 on dapper on an AMD64 machine.

after enabling mail_use_modules in dovecot to enable quota shown to imap users i get this error when a users logs in.

There's no problem with pop3 quota.

Maybe this bug is fixed on debian and is surely fixed on newer dovecot's version.

/var/log/mail.log:

Mar 18 21:07:38 mail02 dovecot: Dovecot v1.0.beta3 starting up
Mar 18 21:07:39 mail02 dovecot: auth-worker(default): mysql: Connected to localhost (postfix)
Mar 18 21:08:38 mail02 dovecot: imap(<email address hidden>): dlopen(/usr/lib/dovecot/modules/imap/lib02_imap_quota_plugin.so) failed: /usr/lib/dovecot/modules/imap/lib02_imap_quota_plugin.so: undefined symbol: quota
Mar 18 21:08:38 mail02 dovecot: imap-login: Login: user=<email address hidden>, method=PLAIN, rip=127.0.0.1, lip=127.0.0.1, secured

To replicate this bug configure a working imap server with dovecot and in the section of dovecot.conf:

protocol imap {

add:

mail_use_modules = yes
mail_modules = /usr/lib/dovecot/modules/imap

This error precludes writing into folders for example for saving sent mail or importing mail from other accounts. I think this could be a great problem

I'll start by checking if this doesn't happen on hardy.

Removing myself after checking hardy.

The Dapper release of dovecot is 1.0.beta3, Hardy uses 1.0.10.

The changelog for 1.0.beta4 contains this entry:
 * Replaced mail_use_modules and mail_modules settings with mail_plugins
   and mail_plugin_dir. Now instead of loading all plugins from the
   directory, you'll have to give a list of plugins to load. If the
   plugin couldn't be loaded, the process exits instead of just
   ignoring the problem (this is important with ACL plugin).

See Bug #184793 for discussion about other fixes needing attention. I suspect that dovecot for Dapper will need further fixes, but my testing did not investigate the Dapper version at all.

With the italian ubuntu-dev team we backported dovecot 1.0.rc17 to
dapper an this problem is fixed.

I propose to make a SRU
