Bug Description

When I try to change the file associations in konqueror->settings->Configure konqueror->file associations, I change
to open *.avi files with vlc instead of kaffeine. Thiis works fine and if I click on OK, an window pops up, showing updating the configuration.
If now Itry to open an avi file, it should be opened with the new association (vlc), but instead it remains to open with kaffeine. If I view the associations I made before, the table looks unchanged, with kaffeine at first place.

I use Kubuntu 7.10 on i386.

What can I do to change the file associations and in which file are these informations stored?

Thanx

Al

What entry exactly did you change in the configuration dialog? x-something?

I looked, but I don't know where the file associations are stored other than in some . directory in your home directory, should be somewhere in ~/.kde or possibly ~/.local

Same problem in Hardy with KDE 3.5.9. I have default associations for .avi files set to Kaffeine first, xine second. I set associations to xine first, then Kaffeine. When I close and reopen the setting dialog again, assocoations are back to Kaffeine, xine. Annoying.

I also have the same problem in Hardy. Here's a step-by-step:

* Run 'systemsettings'.
* Select 'Default Applications'.
* In the list on the left side, select 'File Associations'.
* In the 'Find filename pattern:' text entry, type the file extension, in my case, 'pdf'.
* The list is filtered to just one entry: Application->pdf.
* Select that entry, and change the order of applications on the right side.
* Click Apply.
* The Updating settings dialog appears, then disappears.
* Both konqueror and dolphin still open PDFs using the wrong application.

Interestingly, I also removed an application from the list of valid PDF viewers - KGhostView. That change stuck, but not the reordering.
