Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdenetwork

I'm using Kopete 0.12.7 in KDE 3.5.8, both unaltered from the stock Kubuntu Gutsy repositories (actually, it's Edgy upgraded to Feisty upgraded to Gutsy). Kopete sees my webcam and allows me to view it and set its contents. However, when I'm using the Yahoo Messenger protocol and invite someone to view my webcam, I always get the error message: "webcam is not available".

I haven't tried viewing someone else's webcam, so I don't know if the problem exists in both directions.

My /etc/lsb-release:

DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=7.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=gutsy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 7.10"

"apt-cache policy kopete" returns:

kopete:
  Installed: 4:3.5.8-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 4:3.5.8-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 4:3.5.8-0ubuntu2 0

There's a slight typo in my posting: "set its contents" should be "see its contents".

Does this still happen with KDE 4, or at least 3.5.10?

I don't know. I had problems with Kopete freezing anytime invited someone to view my webcam, so I recently bought a new one with a different chipset. The old camera was CPIA based, and the new one has a different chipset (I can't remember which chipset off-hand). I have only been able to test the new webcam with Kopete on Yahoo once, but it worked flawlessly. Considering the significant driver problems reported with CPIA chipsets, I have concluded that the driver was probably the culprit.

You can close this bug report, as it doesn't seem to be a problem with Kopete.
