Bug Description

Binary package hint: screem

Screem crashed two times. The firs time I was editing a css document: I was copying some css-code with CTRL+C and pasting it with CTRL+V. I saved the file. I checked the related html document with firefox and after that, I noticed that screem wasn't running any more.
The second time, I was again editing some css and html files, but this time screem shutted down, when I was moving the screem's about-dialog, because it didn't close, I tried to move it away, but screem shutted down.

Here is the terminal output for the first crash:

(screem:5574): Gtk-WARNING **: Refusing to add non-unique action 'cancel drag' to action group 'ScreemActions'
(screem:5574): screem-CRITICAL **: screem_page_is_feature: assertion `SCREEM_IS_PAGE( page )' failed

And the same for the second crash:

screem crashes for me too, fairly randomly, with the same assertion failure.

I also see the following messages on startup, however the crash does not happen (if at all) until I have been editing for some time.

(screem:32117): Gtk-WARNING **: Refusing to add non-unique action 'cancel drag' to action group 'ScreemActions'

(screem:32117): screem-CRITICAL **: screem_page_is_feature: assertion `SCREEM_IS_PAGE( page )' failed

***MEMORY-ERROR***: screem[31104]: GSlice: assertion failed: sinfo->n_allocated > 0

Crashes still occur in screem 0.16.1-4.2 on Ubuntu 8.04 with all updates applied (Oct 21 2008).

screem crashes for me, too. fairly random as well and fairly often. Bad enough that I am trying not to use the editor (although I like some of the features so I wish it was more reliable)

screem version - 0.16.1-4.2
ubuntu 8.04.2

Let me know if I can provide further information to squash the bug...

Here is the output from the terminal when it crashed:

In thinking further about this bug, I also this warning often from screem when I try to save a file that I have edited:

"file:///home/tim/public_html/drupal5/sites/all/themes/MyDrupal_Impact/block.tpl.php has changed on disk
Reload instead of saving?"

in a pop up box with yes / no buttons.

I always say no because there should not have been any changes in the files. They were read, but not changed as far as I know... I don't think the webserver (apache2) even has write privileges.

Maybe that helps?

Confirmed here. Very irritating, this has begun happening very frequently, up to every five minutes. I do switch desktop viewport a lot, does this have anything to do with it?

I'm closing this bug since screem has been removed from Lucid for the following reasons:

RoQA; inactive maintainer, dead upstream, buggy, depends on deprecated libraries

Well... That is a little sad. The slow death of a project... It's too bad, I liked Screem (when it worked.) Looking at the screem project page on Sourceforge I see that there has not been a release since 2006...
