Delay starting, and malfunction, after logout - and a workaround

Over here <https://bugs.launchpad.net/plank/+bug/1749224> in Plank's own (abandoned?) repository there is a report of the problem of my title together with a work-around.

Admittedly I am on Linux Mint rather than Ubuntu, but Mint is based on Ubuntu and I thought that Ubuntu users might encounter the same problem.
