Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 (the alpha release). After the update to Firefox 3 Beta 4, all of my history and bookmarks appears in the drop-down list in Firefox. Normally it only shows the sites that you enter into the address bar, now it shows EVERYTHING. Very annoying.

I can confirm this bug is still present in the 8.04 final release.

It's especially bad because "Clear Private Data" has no effect - all history still appears in the location bar.

This should be considered a showstopper due to the privacy implications.

No updates? This should be considered a CRITICAL BUG as it leaks private data!!!

I found some more info on this bug. It only appears on an upgrade from Ubuntu 7.x. If I delete my entire profile and create a new one, I am able to clear the history as expected.

Do you still have the original profile (before the upgrade)?

A workaround in another bug-report suggested typing

about:config

in the location bar, promise to take care now! Scroll down to

browser.urlbar.maxRichResults;

and change the default 12 to 0. It's not exactly an elegant answer and may not be what you are looking for. Changing the value to 12 again brings back all those urls so don't worry if it didn't do what you wanted.
