I no longer had the original files available but re-ran the test today on latest Ubuntu Mantic Desktop ISO dated 03-07-2023 and attached is the tarball.Tested on same machine (in a VirtualBox) as the original report.

Further test ISO 03-07-2023 - same machine in QEMU/KVM - same failure ..as in Virtual Box

of particular note - only occurs with virtual disks..

I'm facing similar issues. The only difference is that I get no freezing. Installation proceeds from the display of the partition info, yet no installation is taking place. I tested the latest two isos at the time or writing. If more information is needed, please let me know.

I think the fixes needed for this landed today, if you're interested to retry the July-21 or later mantic daily should be in better shape.

Tested Ubuntu Mantic Desktop daily image dated 22-07-2023 and confirm this now fixed.
