Bug Description

I'm using alpha release of Ubuntu 8.04 with 2.6.24-12-generic kernel. I have noticed that my integrated audio volume controls do not cover expected range. Minimal volume (1/100) of Master slider (the only one available via ALSA/PulseAudio) is way too loud. It's very noticeable when using headphones as it is impossible to stand volume levels. OSS controls do not work at all. In previous Ubuntu releases I had to turn down both Master and PCM (which doesn't exist anymore) sliders to get right volume.

My integrated audio chipset is Realtek ALC660 (Intel HD Audio) on Asus M2V motherboard.

Same here with ECS GeForce7050M-M (V1.0A)

Mine is Realtek ALC660. Volume control is either maximum or mute only (discrete two-level on/off). In the volume control (OSS), everything except master and pcm-2 can be adjusted smoothly.

I have installed Hardy Beta, and have the same problem. I cannot work out any way of changing the volume, I have an Asus A6Rp laptop, and the hardware volume buttons do not work (they do in Gutsy) and I cannot change the volume slider on the panel, it just stays at the same volume. I am logging this from my Gutsy install, and get the following:

hamish@HT:~$ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC861 Analog [ALC861 Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 1: ALC861 Digital [ALC861 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 6: Si3054 Modem [Si3054 Modem]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I can provide any additional information from the Hardy install if required, just let me know.

Still faulty volume on asus a6rp, latest update 8/4-08.

Volume-keys are really odd:
mute-btn: does mute BUT sets volume to max when mute off!

vol-down: only works when sound IS MUTED

vol-up: vol goes up to max on first press.

Have tried to change channel in prefs. (as in gutsy),
no difference.

Volume at taskbar-icon also locked to max
(mute does show)

Also, the mixer (double-click on taskbar-volume)
has a stange behaviour, both levels for sound-out
behaves like they recieve constant vol-up commands,
just can't control them away form max without muting!

This behaviour does not show for recording-vol, (2:nd tab)

(Swedish keyboard)

All respect,
You're the best.

OSS Master sound slider, just ON or OFF on REALTEK ALC660 (OSS MIXER).
